Nieto Fine Art Celebrates Its First Abstract Show: “As Above, So Below”
Exhibition explores the role of artist as a unifier of the metaphysical and physical worlds.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – September 24th, 2010 – Nieto Fine Art, a contemporary art gallery, is delighted to announce its debut of abstract works, “As Above, So Below.” The show will open for the public at their gallery space on Sutter Street September 24th, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
“As Above, So Below” is a maxim from Greek theology describing the unity of the metaphysical and physical worlds; from microcosm to macrocosm. The philosophy states that the spirit world above us mirrors our earthly condition, and it is only through these parallels that miracles can occur. Thus it is with art, and thus artists become magicians in their own right.
The show features the work of two artist-magicians: Trey Reed and Kristina Quinones. Reed’s work uses a multitude of mediums to explore the infinite act of time’s passage, and the changes that result from that passage. Modeling pastes, gym seal, wood stains, and paint create three-dimensional surfaces that tease the spectators’ artistic sensibilities.
Each of Kristina Quinones’ pieces are uniquely named, reflecting the cosmic range of emotion felt by those participating in the experience of seeing them: “Escape,” “Iris,” “Demand,” “Delight.” Quinones’ acrylic on canvas works are characterized by layers of color, curling in vibrant eddies, calling the senses like sirens.
Nieto Fine Art is located at 565 Sutter St, San Francisco, CA.
